The writing of my new single, “Noise” came at a time when one of my friends was dealing with mental illness. I felt helpless as I recognized my instinct to shield and protect them, while struggling with the reality that that wasn't my role. The lows of depression are exhausting and my instinct both musically and lyrically is to write from that dark place, but the highs can feel magical. Unfortunately, that magical place can be a bit dangerous. “Noise” finds the song’s narrator trying to talk someone down from a manic high. I hope you can feel a bit of the euphoria imbued in this track as you listen. Hazy and surreal, this song features string arrangements that I had a blast writing, which echo the sounds of Saturday Night Fever. It features Caroline Marie Brooks from Good Lovelies on vocals.
lyrics
Hey, Don't go out tonight, something doesn't feel right
It looks like the world might spin down
Here, lay down on the bed
rest your chemical head
Turn the noise down I said turn the noise down
Hey, don't go out tonight something doesn't seem right
I feel like the world might spin down
Here, lay down on the bed
Rest your chemical head
Turn the noise down I said, turn the noise down
Hey, Don't go out tonight, something doesn't feel right
It feels like the sky might fall down
Here, stay close by my side
We can shut down the night
Turn the noise down I said, turn the noise down
Hey, don't go out tonight, something doesn't feel right
it looks like the stars might fall down here
Stay close by my side
We can shut down the night
Turn the noise down I said, turn the noise down
Well you know it gonna be alright "I really hope that you're right"
"I really hope that you're right"
I can tell it's gonna work out fine turn turn around, around, around
Gotta change the way you see it
"Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch_Changes"
Gotta change the way you do it
Hey, Don't go out tonight, something doesn't feel right
It looks like the world might spin down
Here, lay down on the bed
rest your chemical head
turn the noise down I said Turn the noise down
